Why We Created the Voyager Headshell

    Le Son Voyager magnesium headshell

The Voyager Headshell was created to solve three practical limits we often encounter with standard Technics-style headshells.

First, overhang adjustment can be too limited for certain longer alignment geometries, including Löfgren A / Baerwald. Second, the headshell platform can sit too high to achieve a suitable VTA range when the tonearm is already at its lowest position. Third, azimuth adjustment is usually not available at the headshell.

The Voyager answers these points with an extended mounting platform, a 1.5 mm lower headshell platform, and adjustable azimuth in a lightweight AZ31B magnesium body.

The rear fingerlift completes the design, giving a calmer, more stable handling point without disturbing the cartridge area.

    What the Voyager Solves

    More Overhang Adjustment Range

The extended mounting platform gives more overhang flexibility than a standard Technics-style headshell.

This can be useful when setting longer alignment geometries, including Löfgren A / Baerwald, depending on the tonearm and cartridge combination.

    More Useful VTA Room

The Voyager platform sits 1.5 mm lower than the original Technics headshell.

In many Technics-style setups, this helps create more useful tonearm-height range when the arm is already close to its lowest position.

    Adjustable Azimuth

Azimuth adjustment gives you a practical way to fine-tune the side-to-side orientation of the cartridge and stylus.

When adjusted carefully, this can support cleaner channel balance, more stable imaging and more precise groove contact.

    Adjustable Azimuth

The Voyager allows azimuth adjustment at the headshell, giving you a practical way to refine stylus orientation when the cartridge, tonearm and record surface call for it.

Correct azimuth can support better channel balance and stereo focus, but it should be adjusted carefully and in small steps.

If you are unsure, start from a visually level position and make only modest adjustments.

    Refined Headshell Platform

    Extended alignment range

The longer mounting platform gives more overhang flexibility than a standard Technics-style headshell.

This can be useful when working with alignment geometries such as Löfgren A / Baerwald, depending on the tonearm and cartridge combination.

    Lower mounting height

The mounting platform sits 1.5 mm lower than the original Technics headshell.

In many systems, this gives more useful VTA adjustment room and may reduce the need for additional shims or thicker platter mats.

    Lightweight and rigid

At 7.5 grams without lead wires, the Voyager is designed to combine low mass, rigidity and practical handling in a clean SME-type format.

    Rear Fingerlift Placement

    Designed for calmer handling

The fingerlift is positioned toward the rear of the headshell to create a stable handling point while keeping the cartridge mounting area cleaner.

    Practical daily use

The placement supports controlled cueing, especially on turntables where the listener naturally keeps one hand close to the deck.

    Complete the Mechanical Interface

    Le Son brass headshell washer

The Headshell Washer is a practical upgrade for the Voyager Headshell and other SME-type bayonet headshells.

Machined from solid brass with a tapered profile, it helps refine the interface between headshell and tonearm through improved centering, stability and contact quality.

For listeners who want the cleanest mechanical connection at the bayonet mount, it is a simple and coherent companion to the Voyager.

What is the Voyager Headshell made of?

The Voyager Headshell is machined from AZ31B magnesium alloy, chosen for its combination of low mass, rigidity and useful damping behavior.

It is designed as a precise mechanical interface between cartridge and tonearm, not as a cosmetic accessory.

What type of tonearm does the Voyager Headshell fit?

The Voyager Headshell uses a standard SME-type H-4 bayonet connector.

It is intended for compatible removable-headshell tonearms, including many Technics SL-style tonearms and other arms using the same connection standard.

If you are unsure, send us your turntable and tonearm model before ordering.

How does the longer platform help cartridge alignment?

The longer mounting platform provides more overhang flexibility than a standard Technics-style headshell.

This can be useful when setting certain longer alignment geometries, including Löfgren A / Baerwald, depending on the tonearm and cartridge combination.

How does the lower platform help VTA setup?

The Voyager mounting platform sits 1.5 mm lower than the original Technics headshell.

In many Technics-style setups, this gives more useful tonearm-height range when the tonearm is already close to its lowest position.

Final VTA/SRA still depends on cartridge body height, stylus profile, record thickness, mat thickness and tonearm adjustment range.

    What does azimuth adjustment allow?

Azimuth adjustment lets you fine-tune the side-to-side orientation of the cartridge and stylus at the headshell.

Correct azimuth can support better channel balance, imaging and groove contact, but it should be adjusted carefully and in small steps.

If you are unsure, start from a visually level position and seek guidance before making larger changes.

What is the weight of the Voyager Headshell?

The Voyager Headshell weighs 7.5 g without lead wires.

This makes it relatively light while still offering a rigid magnesium body and adjustable azimuth mechanism.

The final tonearm and cartridge match depends on the full effective mass of the tonearm, headshell, cartridge and mounting hardware.

Can I use the Voyager Headshell with any cartridge?

The Voyager Headshell is compatible with standard half-inch mount cartridges that suit its geometry, weight and mounting range.

It should not be treated as universal for every cartridge in every system. Cartridge body height, cartridge weight, pin layout, tonearm geometry and alignment requirements can all matter.

If you are unsure, send us your cartridge and tonearm details before ordering.

What is included with the Voyager Headshell?

The Voyager Headshell includes four lead wires and a precision H1.5 hex screwdriver for azimuth adjustment.

The supplied lead wires use 7N OFHC copper conductors and gold-plated H62 brass connectors.

Is the Voyager Headshell covered by warranty?

Yes. The Voyager Headshell is covered by a 1-year warranty under normal use.

Warranty coverage applies to defects in materials or workmanship. It does not cover misuse, improper installation, unauthorized modification, external damage or normal wear.

If an issue appears, please contact us with your order details and a clear description of the symptom.

Not sure whether the Voyager suits your tonearm?
