Pure Silver DIN to XLR Phono Cable

Le Son DIN to XLR phono cable

Designed for the delicate low-level signal between a tonearm with a 5-pin DIN output and a phono stage with balanced XLR inputs.

Manufactured by Xangsane to Le Son specifications, the cable combines pure silver signal conductors, low capacitance construction, layered shielding and a separate ground lead.

This balanced version is intended for compatible tonearms using the classic 5-pin DIN connection. If your phono stage has RCA inputs, choose the DIN Phono Cable instead.

    Pure silver signal conductors

    Pure silver phono cable conductors

Four 0.2 mm² (24 AWG) 6N pure silver conductors carry the left and right signal paths.

The goal is simple: preserve the low-level cartridge signal with low resistance, stable contact and a clean electrical path from tonearm to phono stage.

A separate silver-plated ground lead runs from the ground pin of the 5-pin DIN plug to a spade for the ground terminal of your phono stage.

It carries the tonearm ground on its own path, apart from the cable shields.

    Shielding for low-level phono signals

    Layered phono cable shielding design

Phono signals are small, so shielding and cable routing matter.

This cable uses a layered shielding structure to help protect the cartridge signal as it travels from the tonearm to the phono stage.

The shields are connected at the XLR end only, to pin 1 of each plug.

    1. Aluminium foil around each channel, with cotton filling to help maintain channel separation.

    2. Copper foil for an additional shielding layer against electrical interference.

    3. Braided silver-coated copper shield around the cable assembly.

    Connectors and connection options

DIN to XLR phono cable connectors

A straight 5-pin DIN plug connects to the tonearm, and two male XLR plugs connect to the balanced inputs of the phono stage. On each XLR plug, pin 2 carries the positive signal, pin 3 the negative, and pin 1 the shield.

The XLR plugs are lightweight Neutrik connectors, chosen so that their weight does not strain the silver conductors.

This page is for tonearms with a 5-pin DIN output feeding balanced XLR phono inputs. If your phono stage uses RCA inputs, choose the DIN Phono Cable instead.

The aluminium alloy splitter bodies provide a clean separation point for the left and right channels and help protect the cable transition areas.

    Wiring diagram

This DIN to XLR phono cable is wired for a balanced connection. On each XLR plug, pin 2 carries the positive signal and pin 3 the negative. The shields are connected to pin 1, at the phono stage end only. The ground lead is kept separate from the shields, and runs from the turntable ground pin to the spade. This configuration is designed to prevent ground loops and any interference.

    The diagram shows one channel.

    Complete the cable path

The phono cable carries the smallest signal in the system. The rest of the connection path should remain just as coherent.

For phono stages with RCA inputs, choose the DIN Phono Cable. For line-level connections after the phono stage, consider the Silver XLR Cable or Silver RCA Cable.
